Rules of Thumb

Trade within your limits.
It's your responsibility to trade and invest within your means. Most experts say that no more than 10% of your entire portfolio should be dedicated to speculative investments. Micro Caps and Nano Cap stocks are about as speculative as you can get. You can make 1000%+ on a trade, but you can also lose everything. In short, use your head.

Don't buy all at once.
The best stock pickers in the world have trouble picking "tops" and "bottoms", so don't "back the truck up" on any one trade. We recommend purchasing 1/4 of what you're allotting for the entire position to any single trade. This will give your dry powder to accumulate at lower prices if the opportunity presents itself.

Take Profits.
While we issue price targets on our Featured Picks (we don't issue price targets on our Daily trading candidates), they are purely our opinion and, like many professional stock pickers, we are often wrong - our picks often never reach our price targets or in some cases well exceed our price targets. You can't lose money by taking profits. We recommend having "trading shares" AND "investing shares" when buying our picks, that way you can sell your trading shares when the price rises rapidly in the short term and look to re-enter when the stock price retraces (they always do). By doing that you book profits on your short-term "trading" position, lower the cost basis on your long-term "investment" position and have powder to re-enter the trade at lower prices if you choose. As a general rule, if one of our positions is up over 100% from our pick, we recommend selling enough of your position to recover 130% of your original cost (lock in 30% profits) and then you have a "free position" to let it ride and/or can come back into the trade later for another run.

Be Realistic.
Realize that penny stocks rarely trade where they "should" using conventional analysis. Undervalued stocks are undervalued for a reason. 20X and 30X earnings or EBITDA multiples are a phenomenon created by Institutional investor involvement. Since most institutions can't invest in penny stocks, don't get hung up on multiples that apply to much larger companies. Generally speaking, look to buy a penny stock when nobody is paying attention. Look to sell a penny stock when everyone is paying attention or there is "mania".
